Applied Work-Based Learning Experience: SEC Ambassador
Starting at ODU, I got the job as a Student Ambassador at the Strome Entrepreneurial Center. My experience as a Student Ambassador was extremely interesting and motivating. I learned how to improve skills such as public speaking, event planning, team coordination, and many technological skills. As a student ambassador for the Strome Entrepreneurial Center, our main goal is to provide professional-level assistance to anyone who visits with the anticipation to start their entrepreneurial journey.
My experience as a Student Ambassador at the SEC allowed me to practice my ability to manage social media marketing with the development and maintenance of live streams, scheduled posting, email marketing and analytics, as well as the ability to create and produce successful events. As an ambassador I had to go to difference classes at ODU to give an informational presentation about the center to spread awareness of our presence on campus and advertise the resources we had to offer to our students and surrounding communities.
This job was valuable as I was taught how to take on multiple tasks that vary in functions. At the SEC I got to teach young entrepreneurs from ODU as well as from Kempsville High School how to turn their business ideas into actual businesses.
I was given the opportunity to work along with ROAR, the marketing agency on campus managed by Ted Gournelos, where I got to apply the market research I developed for the ODU School of Nursing and create deliverables of the Mobile Medical Clinic that was granted to the University. I was taken on meetings where we discussed their goals for the organization through their social media platforms such as their website.
